Do DeckLink cards support HDV?

Mac OS X

Final Cut Pro HD v5.0 includes HDV support for Mac OS X. The Multibridge and DeckLink 5.4.1 drivers provide HDV playback support for Final Cut Pro. We recommend Mac OS X 10.4.x for use with Final Cut Pro HD v5.0.

After capturing HDV via Firewire, you can use a Blackmagic HDV easy setup in Final Cut Pro HD v5.0 to play out your HDV material to a HD deck and HD monitor.

HDV down conversion is also supported in both software and hardware. All DeckLink cards, including standard definition DeckLink cards, will down convert HDV (from HDTV10801 or HDTV7202) to standard definition when played out through the DeckLink card. The DeckLink HD Pro 4:4:4 card can also perform split HDTV1080 hardware down conversion, meaning that you can output HD-SDI to a deck and simultaneously output SD-SDI through the DeckLink's SDI monitoring port and also standard definition via the analog video outputs. Analog output can be switched between component and composite output, in standard definition, for low cost monitoring of HD material.

Windows XP

Premiere Pro 1.5.1 and 2.0 can capture HDV via Firewire and then transcode the video to an uncompressed Blackmagic 8 or 10 bit timeline. Once the transcoding process has completed, you can edit the video and audio and then play it out as uncompressed video through your DeckLink HD series card.

The DeckLink HD Pro 4:4:4 card can perform split HDTV10801 hardware down conversion, meaning that you can output HD-SDI to a deck and simultaneously output SD-SDI through the DeckLink's SDI monitoring port and also standard definition via the analog video outputs. Analog output can be switched between component and composite output, in standard definition, for low cost monitoring of HD material.

Notes:

1 HDTV1080 down conversion refers to down conversion from HDTV 1920 x 1080 to either NTSC or PAL frame sizes.
2 HDTV720 down conversion refers to down conversion from HDTV 1280 x 720 to an NTSC frame size. HDTV720 down conversion to PAL is not currently implemented as there are currently no decks which support the rare HDTV720p/50 standard.
