Supported Systems for DeckLink HD Down Conversion

Which Mac OS X systems are supported when using the HDTV down conversion?

When running the real time HDTV to NTSC or PAL down conversion features in all DeckLink cards, you need to use the HDTV qualified Mac system that you would normally use for DeckLink HD series cards.

Please check current Blackmagic support notes on qualified systems recommended for the DeckLink HD family.

Standard definition DeckLink cards support HDTV down conversion, however you need to plug these into either of the following HDTV qualified Mac systems:

  • PCI-X equipped dual processor G5, or
  • PCI-e equipped dual or quad core G5.

The DeckLink, DeckLink Plus, DeckLink Pro, DeckLink SP and DeckLink Extreme cards will output HDTV edits as standard definition NTSC or PAL video. You will also need a HD speed disk array for uncompressed HD video. Less expensive disk storage, including good Firewire drives, can be used if HD material is captured in a compressed format such as DVCPRO HD or PhotoJPEG. The LaCie Big Disk family of Firewire drives are one example of an excellent Firewire storage solution for full resolution compressed HD capture and playback.
